The Twist are in rehearsals for their latest fundraising event which runs from 19th May to 28th May (see Home Page for more details). They are a great bunch of guys and girls that really enjoy spending time rehearsing and performing together. With a number of jokers in the band, there is never a dull moment. Their love for the music of the 1960s, 70s and 80s really shows in their performance.
Join The Twist this May for a great night out and help support
Tor
Lead Vocals
Growing up in the 60s and 70s in central London, just a stones throw from Carnaby Street, Tor couldn’t help but get caught up in the music of the Swinging 60s. During the 70s he was involved in the Marquee Club, one of London’s premier music venues. He released a number of Indie singles in the early 80s. In 1986 Tor appeared with Sarah Brightman and Steve Harley in the promotional video for Phantom of the Opera. He has been singing and acting for many years but his passion always returns to the songs he grew up with. Long live the 60s!
Allan
Keyboard Player
Allan is a classically trained pianist who has learned to love all genres of music. He began playing at an early age in his native country of China and came to New Zealand in 2018. Not only is he a member of The Twist, he is also collaborating with Tor on a jazz album inspired by the Great American Songbook. His passion for music, combined with raising money for charitable causes makes his contribution to The Twist invaluable.
Andrew
Lead Guitar
Brought up in a traditional Greek household in South Africa, Andrew has had the music of Greece, South Africa and the local pop/rock radio station ringing in his ears since he was a boy. His love of guitar has seen him playing in bands for the past 12 years all around the Auckland music scene. In his words, ‘he is a David Gilmour, Eric Clapton wannabe.” Andrew absolutely loves the music of the 1960’s, 70 & 80’s and is thrilled to be part of The Twist and their fundraising efforts.
Ngaio
Vocals
Ngaio has been involved in various genres of theatre and music for several years, having lead and supporting parts in numerous theatrical productions and concerts. Her passion for performing comes out on the stage where she loves to have a great time entertaining the audiences. Fundraising for Breast Cancer is a charity close to her heart as she has lost loved ones to the disease.
Sher
Backing Vocals
Sher has a passion for all genres of music and when not singing with The Twist is a member of the She Choir. Sher loves ballroom and Latin dancing and recently participated in the World Kizomba Dance Project for Team New Zealand 2022. “I am honored to be part of The Twist, because of the great work we are doing to raise money for such an important cause”.
Noelia
Backing Vocals
Noelia brings some Latin blood to the band. She hails from Argentina and has been in New Zealand for three years. She loves singing and feels that being able to perform in this upcoming series of concerts raising money for the Breast Cancer Foundation is fantastic and well worth the time away from her Argentinian home.
Bruno
Drummer
Bruno, originally from Brazil, has been playing drums since his late teens. He has lived in New Zealand for the past 8 years and has a passion for Brazilian music, as well as rock, pop and funk. As a drummer, his biggest inspiration is the legendary Neil Peart from the iconic band Rush. Inspired by the charitable concerts put on by The Twist and the music they perform, Bruno couldn’t wait to get involved.
Steve
Bass Player
Steve has been playing the bass in bands for 25 years, gigging in pubs, clubs, private functions and festivals. He has played music from many different genres over the years and particularly enjoys music from the swinging 60s. His inspiration comes from the bass playing greats such as Paul McCartney and John Entwistle of The Who. Steve is really enjoying his time with The Twist and looking forward to raising money for the Breast Cancer Foundation at the upcoming concerts.
Sean
Rhythm Guitar
Born and raised in Manchester England, Sean was brought up on the music of the 60’s and 70’s along with a good helping of traditional Irish music and a secret craving for Disco! He has spent many years playing in bands, duos and performing as a soloist in the UK, Middle East and now here in Aotearoa. Spotting that The Twist were looking for a rhythm guitarist with one condition, he had to have a black suit, (in his words) “like a rat up a drain pipe”, suited and booted, here he is! Now involved in his second concert, his one condition still stands.
